Overview

What Are Magnetic Light Covers?

A magnetic light cover is a printed, light-diffusing film that sits flat across the face of a recessed ceiling fixture and holds itself in place with magnets. There is nothing to unscrew and no lens to remove: the magnet strips grab the steel frame of the fixture or ceiling grid, and the cover lifts off again whenever you need to change a bulb or swap a design.

Tool-Free Magnetic Mounting

Neodymium magnet strips go on the back of the cover, then the cover sticks to the metal grid. Most people finish a fixture in under five minutes, with no screws, clips, or electrician.

Softer, Diffused Light

The backlit film spreads harsh overhead light into an even glow, which cuts direct glare and the eye strain that comes with it in offices and classrooms.

Class A Fire Rated Film

Covers are made from 8 mil backlit film rated ASTM E84 / UL 723 Class A, the rating schools, hospitals, and commercial buildings ask for. See the technical specs.

How It Works

How to Install Magnetic Light Covers in Four Steps

Each cover ships with long and short magnet strips. You apply them to the back edges of the film once, peeling the adhesive backing about two inches at a time so the strip goes on straight.

From there the cover simply rides on the metal. Line up one long edge with your ceiling grid, let the magnets catch, and smooth the rest into place. Our installation guide walks through it with photos.

  • ✓ Work on a clean, dry, flat surface
  • ✓ Apply the long magnet strips, then the short ones
  • ✓ Peel the backing two inches at a time
  • ✓ Align the long side to the ceiling grid first
  • ✓ Lift off any time to change bulbs or clean
  • ✓ No tools needed beyond a step ladder

Magnetic Light Covers vs Standard Fixture Lenses

A plain acrylic lens does one job. A magnetic cover adds diffusion, a design, and easy removal on top of it.

Feature Standard Acrylic Lens Magnetic Light Cover
Installation Open the fixture and seat the lens Magnets hold it to the grid, no tools
Look Bright white rectangle Printed sky, scene, color, or your art
Glare Often harsh and direct Diffused, softer light
Changing designs Not practical Peel off and swap in seconds
Fire rating Depends on the lens ASTM E84 / UL 723 Class A film
Sizes Matches one fixture 2x4, 2x2, and 1x4
Pro Tip: Measure the lit face of your fixture before ordering: 24" x 48" is a 2x4, 24" x 24" is a 2x2, and 12" x 48" is a 1x4. Not sure? Send us a photo and we will help.

Where They Shine

A Calmer Room Without Replacing a Single Fixture

Classrooms, exam rooms, and windowless offices often run on rows of bright 2x4 troffers. Covering them is the fastest, lowest-cost way to change how a room feels, and it does not involve facilities, wiring, or a work order.

Teachers use cloud and ocean covers to calm a busy room, clinics use sky scenes over exam chairs, and offices pick solid color covers for a quieter, professional ceiling.

  • ✓ Softens glare from fluorescent and LED panels
  • ✓ Works in 2x4, 2x2, and 1x4 drop ceiling fixtures
  • ✓ Printed on 8 mil backlit film
  • ✓ Wipe with a dry microfiber cloth only

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions people ask most about magnetic light covers.

How do magnetic light covers attach?

You apply the included magnet strips to the back edges of the cover, then place it against the metal ceiling grid or fixture frame. The magnets hold it flat. There are no screws or clips.

What sizes do magnetic light covers come in?

2x4 (24" x 48"), 2x2 (24" x 24"), and 1x4 (12" x 48"). The 2x4 is $39.99 and the 2x2 and 1x4 are $32.99 per cover.

Do magnetic light covers work on LED lights?

Yes. They are made for fluorescent troffers and LED flat panels alike, as long as the fixture or grid around it is steel the magnets can grip.

Are magnetic light covers for fluorescent lights a fire hazard?

Our covers are printed on backlit film rated ASTM E84 / UL 723 Class A. The fire test report is available to download.

Will magnetic light covers work in my classroom drop ceiling?

Most school drop ceilings use a steel grid with 2x4 or 2x2 fixtures, which is exactly what these covers are built for. Measure the lit area first to pick the right size.

Do magnetic light covers make the room darker?

The film diffuses light rather than blocking it, so rooms feel softer rather than dim. Darker designs, like night skies, will pass less light than a pale sky or white cover.

Can I take the cover off to change a bulb?

Yes. Pull a corner away from the grid and the cover lifts off. Put it back the same way when you are done.

How do I clean a magnetic light cover?

Take it down and wipe it with a dry microfiber cloth. Do not use water or liquid cleaners, which can damage the print.

Do magnetic light covers work on round or can lights?

No. Our covers are rectangular and made for 2x4, 2x2, and 1x4 drop ceiling fixtures, not round recessed can lights.

Can I get a custom magnetic light cover?

Yes. Upload your own photo or logo, or choose any hex color, on our custom magnetic light covers page. Custom covers ship in 2 business days.
