A DIY Hanging Lamp is one of the best ways to add a unique touch to your home. Before you get started, there are a few items you will need. Make certain you gather all of your materials and have the appropriate tools prior to starting your project, as this will make certain that you can finish your lamp without unwanted delays or problems.
You will need:
3/4 inch wood veneer strips.
Glue. Wood glue, white glue, or industrial strength glue will all work for this project.
Large clips. Ikea or any office supply store will sell these. Alternatively, you can use clothes pins.
You will need as many clips as you have strips of wood.
Appropriate lighting fixture.
A pen.
Cardstock.
Safety notice: While wood is recommended for this project, you can also use paper. No matter what type of material you select, use only low wattage bulbs and ensure the woven lamp cage does not touch paper or wood.
Step One:
Form a circle with a piece of wood (or paper) veneer and secure with glue. Clip the material so that the glue can set without shifting. The ring made should be the size you want your lamp.
Step Two:
Form additional circles using strips of wood, using the previous ring as a mounting point for your glue. Repeat this step until you have the desired shape you want your lamp. Leave a gap in the top of the lamp to install the fixture the fixture, light, and lens. Use clips on every spot where you have applied glue
Note: If you are using a long-tubed fluorescent fixture, you will need to build around the fixture, leaving space for bulb and lens installation.
Step Three: Create a lamp mount with your card stock. You will need to use your scissors to cut a hole for the mount. Glue the card stock to the light fixture away from where the bulb is installed to prevent a fire risk.
Step Four: Glue the cardstock to the top of the lamp and secure with clips until dry.
Step Five: Hang the fixture, install your bulb. Enjoy your easy and elegant DIY woven lamp.
